Workshop: Stress Management & Suicide

Stress Management & Suicide

  • Free

  • Wednesday, March 20th 4:30-5:30pm

This is the third in a series of four connected workshops that will talk about mental health (attend one or all four!). This week, we will be focusing on learning to recognize and manage stress in helpful ways. We will also learn to identify signs of suicide and seek the appropriate resources for help.

The following skills we will work to develop are the following: help youth build their own definitions of stress, identify what causes them stress, and discuss how people cope with stress in both helpful and unhelpful ways. Through brainstorming activities, teens learn to identify stress in their lives. This lesson focuses on ways we recognize suicidal thoughts in those around us and directs students to appropriate resources for help.

About Youth Line: Youth Line is a free and confidential 24-hour crisis, counseling, and referral line for youth BY youth! They provide a peer-supported outreach program to de-stigmatize mental health challenges, increase awareness for mental health and wellness, and encouraging youth to reach out for health.

About the facilitators: Parker is cis and female (she/her pronouns), an ally to the LGBTQ+ community, and a proponent for de-stigmatizing mental illness and suicide.  She is also an advocate for mental health and wellness and has experience as an Outreach Specialist for Lines for Life as well as addressing prevention of substance abuse and suicide.

Parker will also be presenting alongside youth volunteers to provide a peer lens.
