Suicide Awareness Workshop
Wednesday, February 20th 4:30-5:30pm
This is the first in a series of four connected workshops that will talk about mental health (attend one or all four!). This week, we will be focusing on moving past stigmas around suicide to improve the ability to recognize and address the signs of suicide.
This lesson combats the stigma around suicidal ideation and depression and gives students a chance to talk about these uncomfortable topics. Teens learn to recognize the signs of suicidal ideation, gauge their personal comfort level with the topic, and identify how to help a friend in crisis.
The skills we will work to develop are: recognize the prevalence of suicide in Oregon, learn warning signs and symptoms of both suicidal thoughts and thoughts of depression, and identify help-seeking behaviors.
If there are topics of particular interest that come up and require more in-depth conversation, we’ll be offering more workshops! Come with questions or come just to listen!!
