Workshop: Power-Up to Demolish the Kyriarchy!

Intro to Dialectical Behavior Therapy + Social Support Superhero Workshop: Power-Up to Demolish the Kyriarchy!

  • Free*

  • Monday, October 15th, 4-6pm

About the workshop:

This engaging workshop will teach you basic emotional skills to get your emotions working with you rather than against you. You will also leave with a concrete tool to help you access community support when you need it.

No judgement zone! Open to anyone whether you struggle with emotional regulation, or just want some cool coping tips for when you’re having a tough time!

In case you’re not familiar with the term “Kyriarchy”: it encompasses set of social systems that uphold intersecting oppressions. (Which is more intersectional than say, patriarchy on its own, because it reflects that not all men have power over all women - based on other oppressions and privileges individuals may have, including race, sexuality, etc).

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (commonly referred to as DBT) is a cognitive behavioral treatment that focuses on developing a life that the individual experiences as worth living. Int includes the development of skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. It was originally developed for individuals who experience chronic suicidal ideation as a symptom of Borderline Personality Disorder - but it’s now used for a wide range of other disorders, including substance dependence, depression, PTSD, and eating disorders - and can be useful for ANYONE!

About the workshop facilitator:

Dr. Rachel Oristano holds Doctorates in Naturopathic and Classical Chinese Medicine from the National University of Natural Medicine. She loves helping people transform their patterns away from cycles of depression, anxiety, and trauma so that they can meet the world on their own terms.
