Book of Self

Book of Self

4-6pm, Mondays 10th-24th in April

$10 (for full 4 week course) for a la carte teens (free for students/members)*

Learn about altered book art, and create a totally unique expression of your identity.

We often view books as sacred objects (we're told not to mark them up, not to fold down the corners of pages, etc) - but in this class we'll use books as a launching point - you're encouraged to cut into your book, create poetry from the existing words, obscure them completely with collage or drawings, or transform your book so entirely that it becomes more of an object.

No artistic experience required. You can see some examples of what an altered book might look like here: https://www.pinterest.com/marrowpdx/altered-books/

You're welcome to bring a book that especially resonates with you (just remember that it probably won't be readable anymore when it's done) or choose from one of our selection.

The finished books (if you want!) will be included an exhibition on identity at Marrow in late spring!

*All teens participating in Marrow programming must register as "a la carte", "student", or "member" - for more details check out our registration page! You can register online in advance, or at Marrow. Please note: no teen will ever be turned away from Marrow for lack of funds.
