Intro to Metal Jewelry

Intro to Metal Jewelry

Thursdays, 4-6pm
$15-25 sliding scale (one-time materials fee, waived for members) plus the cost of casting your piece (averages $10-30 depending on size of piece and whether you use silver or bronze) to be paid by all participants, once your piece is done.

Learn about the lost wax casting process from Daylynn, who in addition to working at Marrow, is a part-time metalsmith!

Lost wax casting is the process of creating a model in wax, which is then encased in plaster, melted out, and the hollow space where the wax was is filled with molten metal, then cooled, creating an exact copy of your wax model in metal.

Participants in this class will learn about wax carving and construction techniques, and work towards creating their own piece of jewelry or small art object.

We will not be doing any actual casting in this class (that part will be outsourced to a rad local casting company, which is run by local artists, and uses 100% recycled metals), but we will learn about the entire process!

Feel free to join the class at any time, even if you miss the first session, we can catch you up.
