Personal Narrative: Amethyst Dawson

Amethyst is completing her practicum placement from the Bachelors of Social Work (BSW) program at PSU and will be here twice a week all the way until May. She will be at Marrow on Tuesdays from 12-6pm and Fridays from 10am-6pm, so feel free to stop by and say hey or send her an email at

Amethyst has done work primarily in shelters for families, day centers for women, and mentoring in schools. She has also enjoyed being involved in activism in Portland from protests to policy. She identifies as queer and uses she/they pronouns. When she is not working and studying, she enjoys spotting the different murals around Portland, going to local hip-hop shows, spending time with her friends, and working on her research about racial equity within BSW curriculum.

Her mission with Marrow is to help expand Marrow's community of youth by doing community outreach, structure the kitchen to have consistent food there, host bi-weekly community meals for the youth here, assist in opening up the coffee cart, and assist in any workshops of interest - from life skills, blind-contour drawing workshops/talk sessions, and potentially game nights!
